About NIFT

NIFT (National Institute of Fashion Technology) Entrance Exam:

  •    Conducted by the National Institute of Fashion Technology, India.
  •    Purpose: NIFT entrance exam is conducted for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate fashion design and technology programs.

Eligiblity

Bachelor OF Design (B.Des) :- Fashion Design/ Leather Design/ Accesory Design/ Textile/ Knitwear/ Fashion Communication

  1. THE +2 Level examination in the 10 + 2 pattern of examination of any recongnized Central/ State Board of Secondary Examination, such as CBSE/ State Board, New Delhi and Council for Indian School of Certificate, New Delhi
  2. General Certificate Exam (GCE) (London / Cambridge/ Sri Lanka) at the advanced A level International Baccalaureate (IB)
  3. Any Public School / Board / University Examination in India or in foreign countries
    recognised by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10 +2 system
  4. A pass grade in the SSSE (Senior Secondary School Examination) conducted by the
    National Open School with a mim of 5 subjects
  5. 3 or 4 years Diploma recognised by AICTE or State Board of Technical Education

Bachelor of Fashion Technology (B.F. Tech) Apparel Production

  • THE +2 Level examination in the 10 + 2 pattern of examination of any recongnized Central/ State Board of Secondary Examination, such as CBSE/ State Board, New Delhi and Council for Indian School of Certificate, New Delhi with Physics, Chemistry and Maths
  • General Certificate Exam (GCE) (London / Cambridge/ Sri Lanka) at the advanced A level International Baccalaureate (IB) with Physics, Chemistry and Maths
  • Any Public School / Board / University Examination in India or in foreign countries recognised by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10 +2 system with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics
  • A pass grade in the SSSE (Senior Secondary School Examination) conducted by the National Open School with a mim of 5 subjects
    with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics
  • 3 or 4 years Diploma in any branch of engineering recognised by AICTE or State Board of Technical Education

CURRICULUM / SYLLABUS

The NIFT 2024 entrance exam will be divided into two parts:

  • Step 1: Written exams (GAT and CAT) (only B.Des and M.Des candidates need to take CAT)
  • Step 2 – Situational Analysis (B.Des) / PI (All PG programs) 
 

NIFT Syllabus for Creative Ability Test (CAT)

In the CAT exam, you will be tested on your imagination and illustration skills. Some of the factors underlying the assessment in the NIFT Exam are as follows:

NIFT Syllabus for General Ability Test (GAT) 2024

The NIFT Syllabus for GAT covers quantitative ability, communication ability, English comprehension, analytical ability, general knowledge, and current affairs.

Quantitative Ability

This section tests your quantitative ability skills

in Addition, Multiplication, Division, Fractions, Percentage, Rate of Interest, Work and Task, Ratio and Proportion, and Distance.

Communication Ability

You will be tested on language skills and their use in day-to-day communication in English.

Synonyms, Antonyms, Words with corresponding meanings, Singular, Plural, One-word Substitutes, Idioms and Phrases, Spelling correction.

English Comprehension

Your reading and comprehension abilities of a given situation in the unseen passage are tested in this section. 

English language skills through the questions based on the course

Analytical Ability

The questions are designed to test your capacity for the ability to infer and logic from the given information.

Questions from the areas of logical reasoning where you are supposed to draw logical conclusions from the analytical reasoning questions

General Knowledge and Current Affairs

Questions are designed to test your general awareness and current affairs.

Current affairs section and general knowledge.

Case Study

This test is based on an industry environment where you have to analyze and provide solutions to the questions. This test is designed primarily to test your managerial skills.

Exam Pattern

NIFT Written Test – For B.Des. & M.Des.

  • Creative Ability Test (CAT):
  • This test is administered to judge the intuitive ability, power of observation in concept development and design ability of the candidate. An important aspect of the test is the creative and innovative use of colour and illustration skills. About 3-4 questions come for 100 marks. They are all drawing and design related questions but not necessarily fashion related.
  • General Ability Test (GAT):
  • The language of the paper is English. This test will comprise various sections as given below:

Situation Test – For B.Des

Shortlisted candidates for B.Des from the written entrance examination (CAT and GAT papers) are required to take a Situation Test in April 2020. The Situation Test is a hands-on test to evaluate the candidate’s skills for material handling and innovative ability on a given situation with a given set of materials. The model will be evaluated on space visualization, innovative and creative use of given material, composition of elements, colour scheme, construction skill, finesse of the model and overall presentation etc. These parameters will be checked with the write up explaining the concept behind the model constructed. The language of the write up has to be English. P.S.- The use of outside/additional material in making the model/design is not permitted.

P.S.- M.F.Tech will also have some questions from the engineering field.

P.S.- There is no negative marking in NIFT Entrance test.

Group Discussion & Personal Interview for MDes/MFM/MFTech

  1. Group Discussion:

Shortlisted candidates for Masters Programs from the written entrance examination are required to undergo Case Study based Group Discussions (GD) and Personal Interview (PI). GD would comprise approximately 15 to 20 minutes of discussion on a case study assigned, on which a panel of experts will assess the candidates on various parameters including:

  1. Conceptual clarity
  2. Knowledge of the topic assigned
  3. Contribution made to the topic
  4. Interpersonal skills
  5. Ability to generate new ideas
  6. Problem solving approach
  7. Leadership qualities
  8. Effective communication
  1. Personal Interview:

Candidates shall be evaluated on the parameters as listed below by a panel, in the Personal Interview:

  3. Overall personal achievements in academics and co-curricular activities
